Full course description
This two hour course is presented in partnership with the Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) at Texas State University, which serves schools and communities to create safe, secure, and healthy environments. The course introduces school board members to legislative requirements and best practices for safety and security in Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools. Please note that, here, the use of the term “district” applies to both Texas public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools; the terms “board member” and “school trustee” or “trustee” are used interchangeably. This 2-hour course provides a high-level overview of safety mandates. After completing this training, you are encouraged to visit the agency websites for more information about the topics. While the task of school safety can seem overwhelming, the TxSSC and other state agencies and organizations can provide you with the resources and services to contribute to statewide efforts to provide a learning environment where all schools are safe, secure, and healthy.
