This course will provide evidence based information on the skills necessary for literacy success and outline why children who are D/HH may struggle with literacy achievement.  Ways providers can facilitate literacy related skills at early ages and encourage parent involvement are discussed.

At the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Describe the literacy outcomes for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Discuss the skills necessary for successful literacy achievement including: print knowledge phonological processing and language abilities
  • Explain ways to promote literacy development for young children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
