Welcome to The Fundamentals of Inclusive Education. This training was developed by Texas SPED Support in collaboration with the Texas Education Agency. 

This is the first course in our Inclusion Series.  This course is focused on the core elements of inclusive education with best practices for students with complex access needs.  The content in this training aligns with the information in Chapter 1 of Jorgensen (2018), It’s More Than “Just Being In:” Creating Authentic Inclusion for Students with Complex Support Needs.

The learning objectives for this training are:

  • To describe the core elements of inclusive education:
    • Dignity and value
    • Vision for an inclusive life
    • Presumed competence
    • Membership and belonging
    • Participation in inclusive academic and social activities and environments
    • Team collaboration
    • Administrative support
  • Cite research that supports positive outcomes for students with and without disabilities in inclusive classrooms
