Standards-Based Individualized Education Program (SB IEP) Process Training Course 4: Determining Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) 26-27

This course provides participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed to develop appropriate, ambitious IEPs for students with disabilities. Participants will explore the role of special education and related services, including SDI, and the critical connection between service delivery, progress monitoring, and student outcomes.

Throughout the course, participants will examine federal and state requirements related to SDI, including how instruction is delivered through appropriate frequency, duration, and location. The course also focuses on effective data collection practices used to monitor student progress toward measurable annual goals and communicate progress to parents. Participants will learn the essential components of high-quality progress-monitoring systems, review requirements for reporting progress, and apply data collection methods to evaluate student performance over time. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to design, implement, and monitor SDI and use meaningful data to measure, document, and report progress toward IEP goals.

The intended audience for this course is special education teachers, related service providers, and any other professional staff responsible for drafting a student’s IEP, including the PLAAFP statement and measurable annual goals.
