Full course description
In this online training, you will learn ways to support communication for individuals with autism. Some individuals have speech, but it may not be effective. Others may not have any speech and exhibit behaviors, appropriate or inappropriate, to communicate. These individuals might benefit from supports and/or tools called Augmentative and Alternative Communication or AAC. We will discuss the characteristics of autism, language and communication, AAC systems, the AAC assessment process, how AAC supports properly implemented can support evidence-based interventions in autism, and finally we will take a look at the teams that work to support the student in his/her use of AAC.
