Welcome to the Supports for Special Education Referrals course. Within this course, we will review how data collected through the intervention process should be used by problem-solving teams to inform decisions regarding referrals for special education.

This course is designed for teachers, staff, and administrators of PK-12 schools, as well as ESC staff; however, all learners are welcome.

After engaging in this course, learners should be able to do the following:

  • Describe how data from the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework inform the referral process
  • Identify how MTSS data can be used as a component of student evaluation  
  • Describe how MTSS data can inform individualized education program (IEP) development for eligible students

This course is approved for 2 Continuing Professional Education (CPE) hours. Assessments of learner achievement of the objectives will include reflection/application activities, knowledge checks, and wrap-up questions. You will complete one lesson module at a time.
