Learn about the science of teaching reading, including an overview of what skills need to be mastered to become a proficient reader, how the brain learns to read, the characteristics of dyslexia and dysgraphia, how a student’s learning abilities associated with reading can impact a student’s ability to learn how to read, and what instruction and accommodations can remove barriers to learning.

This course will discuss the importance of explicit instruction—whether in reading, writing, mathematics, or any other academic domain. We will learn about the components of the explicit instruction framework, see examples of each component in action, and reflect on our use of explicit instruction in our own work. This course is designed for teachers, staff, and administrators of PK-12 schools, as well as ESC staff; however, all learners are welcome.

CTE 102 will build the efficacy of experienced CTE administrators as they implement a comprehensive K-12 college and career readiness program, gain knowledge of CTE program evaluation and expansion, and support CTE teachers. This asynchronous session is designed to take approximately four hours, but please note completion time may vary by the learner.
